European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso addressed Parliament members during his annual State of the European Union address in Strasbourg, France. He told members that Europe cannot go back to the old-normal before the economic crisis, and called on members to complete the policies needed for a new banking union. Mr. Barroso also condemned the use of chemical weapons in Syria, saying the international community holds “a collective responsibility to sanction these acts and to put an end to this conflict.” He added that a "political solution stands a chance for lasting peace that the Syrian people deserve". close
