Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin (D-IL) praised Chaplain Barry Black’s prayer that morning calling on lawmakers to act on providing funds for military survivor benefits that were on hold due to the government shutdown. Senator Durbin also said House Speaker Boehner (R-OH) was living in “political fear” of bringing up a “clean” continuing resolution to fund the government without any other provisions. Senator Durbin said that it would pass the House with bipartisan support against the wishes of tea party movement conservatives. close
