Representative George Miller (D-CA) talked about the government shutdown and a possible short-term deal to raise the debt limit for six weeks. He said that the proposal for a short-term deal to raise the debt limit for six weeks is “a beginning” but isn’t “sufficient,” and that putting our country on a six week “lease” is inconsistent with our role in the international economy. He also argued that keeping the government closed is “unacceptable,” and that negotiations over the federal budget can continue once everything has been reopened. close
