Katrina Alcorn talked about her book, Maxed Out: American Moms on the Brink, in which she argues that while women are the main bread-winners in a majority of American families, the U.S. workplace is largely hostile to working mothers. As a married mother of three with a good job, Alcorn had a mental breakdown at age 37. She later found that many women had the same experience and that instead of dealing with the underlying cause, many of them dealt with the problem of being “maxed out” by turning to prescription drugs and other treatments. Ms. Alcorn spoke at Kepler’s Books in Menlo Park, California. close
