Peter Gottschalk talked about his book, American Heretics: Catholics, Jews, Muslims and the History of Religious Intolerance, in which he argues that religious intolerance has been strong, even violent in America since the middle of the nineteenth century. Professor Gottschalk asserted that many religious groups have been persecuted throughout American history, sometimes by the very government that’s supposed to protect them. He spoke with Washington Post religion correspondent Michelle Boorstein. close
