Brian Dolinar led a discussion about the book, The Negro in Illinois, a project that was part of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration. The project employed prominent writers like Richard Wright, Margaret Walker, and Fenton Johnson to chronicle the experiences of African Americans in Illinois from the time of slavery to the Great Depression. Mr. Dolinar discussed the book with Adam Green (University of Chicago), Darlene Clark Hine (Northwestern University), and Christopher Reed (Roosevelt University).
