C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2013 LCV Cities Tour” in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, from November 4-7 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time Warner Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed.

Julie Whitesel Weston, a native of Kellogg, Idaho, talked about her book, The Good Times Are All Gone Now: Life, Death, and Rebirth in an Idaho Mining Town, in which she recalls the history of the town, what it was like growing up there and the aftermath when the mine was shutdown. Kellogg, located about 36 miles southeast of Coeur d’Alene, was founded by prospector Noah Kellogg after he discovered galena in the area during the late 19th century. Soon after Kellogg’s discovery, the Bunker Hill Mining Company was formed. Until it closed in 1981, the Bunker Hill Mining Company was the largest employer for the city of Kellogg
