White House Press Secretary Jay Carney responded to questions about the investigation of retired Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent Robert Levinson who went missing in Iran in 2007, reportedly while working as a contractor for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Press Secretary Carney stated that Mr. Levinson "was not a U.S. government employee when he went missing in Iran". He said it was a top priority of the U.S. government to bring him home safely and outlined the administration’s efforts regarding Mr. Levinson.
