Kevin Peraino, former senior writer and Middle East bureau chief for Newsweek, talked about his book, Lincoln in the World: The Making of a Statesman and the Dawn of American Power, in which he examines American foreign policy during the Lincoln administration. The author reported that Lincoln, who never travelled outside of the United States and admitted to his lack of diplomatic knowledge, was successful in deterring Europe’s entry into the Civil War in support of the Confederacy. Kevin Peraino spoke at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois. close
