Cybersecurity experts and journalists talked about the impact of Edward Snowden’s National Security Agency (NSA) leaks on efforts to improve cybersecurity. Allan Friedman and Peter Singer, the co-authors of Cybersecurity and Cyberwar: What Everyone Needs to Know, said U.S. credibility had been damaged by leaks about NSA surveillance, making influencing ongoing debates about the future of the Internet more difficult. The journalists, representing the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and other publications, said the Snowden leaks had led others in the intelligence community to be more open about their activities. close
