Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) made keynote remarks at a panel discussion on U.S. relations with Russia, which were highlighted by the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Panelists spoke about Russian politics and human rights, and the Obama administration’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Senator Cruz criticized the Obama administrations for allowing Russia to expand its influence in the world, especially in the Middle East. He called for a free trade zone in the caucus region of the former Soviet Union and also criticized the Obama administration’s efforts to work with Russia on an Iranian nuclear deal. close
