Tour Guide Dick Reese visited the Oregon State Capitol and talked about how Salem became the capitol of Oregon. He also explained how Oregon went from a territory to becoming the 33rd state in 1859. He spoke about the state’s history using artwork displayed throughout the building including the rotunda, legislative chambers and ceremonial governor’s office. He also talked about the Pioneer Man, a gold plated statue that looks out over the city.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2014 LCV Cities Tour” in Salem, Oregon, from February 3-6 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
