The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations held a hearing of its Over-Criminalization Task Force. The task force was created in 2013 with a mission of assessing and improving current statues, and was co-chaired by Representatives Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and Bobby Scott (D-VA), respective chair and ranking member of the subcommittee. Legal scholars ranging from law professors to former prosecutors told the group that the time had comer for Congress to overhaul the federal criminal code. Julie Rose O’Sullivan, a Georgetown law professor, called the system broken and in many cases unjust. close
