Bill Russell and Jim Brown talked about changes in professional sports in the decades since the Civil Rights Movement. They spoke about their struggles for respect throughout their careers, as well as the role of African Americans in college and professional sports.
The panel, “Sports: Leveling the Playing Field,” took place at a Civil Rights Summit hosted by the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, Texas. 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of President Johnson’s signing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act on July 2, 1964. close
