Koritha Mitchell talked about her book, Living with Lynching: African American Lynching Plays, Performance, and Citizenship, 1890-1930, in which she discusses the way lynching was depicted in plays and other performances in African-American communities during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She argued that these public depictions of lynching helped African-American families understand and survive through that brutal period in American history.
