Representative George Miller (D-CA) talked about his 40-year career in Congress, his accomplishments, and his decision to retire at the end of this term. He discussed the influence his father had on his chosen political career path, and his mentor, Representative Phil Burton. He shared his opinions on some of the various controversial events in Congress, including the Tip O’Neill “pan scam,” Jim Wright’s resignation from Congress, and the election of Newt Gingrich as House speaker. In addition, he talked about changes he had witnessed in Congress and the changing dynamics between the parties. He also detailed various issues he is passionate about and had worked on, including the No Child Left Behind Act, immigration, and universal health care.
