Brenda Stevenson talked about her book, The Contested Murder of Latasha Harlins: Justice, Gender, and the Origins of the LA Riots, in which she looks at the 1991 killing of a 15-year-old African-American girl by a Korean store owner in Los Angeles, California. In her book, Professor Stevenson argues that this event, and the outcome of the trial that followed, acted as a catalyst for the 1992 Los Angeles riots. This interview, recorded at the University of California, Los Angeles, is part of Book TV’s College Series. close
