House Armed Services Committee Vice Chair Mac Thornberry (R-TX) spoke at the Heritage Foundation on national security policy. He criticized President Obama’s foreign and national security policies, including decreases in defense spending and military downsizing. He also criticized the Obama administration’s policy in Afghanistan and Ukraine, and said the U.S. had lost credibility among its allies and adversaries. He talked about the importance of “peace through strength” and more efficient defense spending. Following his speech and a question and answer session, Foreign Policy Initiative and Heritage Foundation analysts talked about his remarks and about national security lessons learned from World War I. close
