Former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq James Jeffrey talked about the latest developments in Iraq. Topics included U.S. policy toward the Iraq over the preceding decade, the history of the region, and Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Among his comments he predicted that Iraq could become three separate entities: an official Shia-dominated state, an Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) state, and a Kurdish state. He said that President Obama did not err in pulling out of Iraq and that it was in fact President George W. Bush who signed the agreement for the U.S. to leave by 2011, but he also said that President Obama should have engaged with the Syrian opposition and taken action when ISIS took over Fallujah in December 2013.
