The House Committee on Veterans' Affairs held a hearing on the Veterans Benefit Administration’s (VBA) process for eliminating the backlog of disability claims at the Veterans Affairs Department. In the first panel, three VBA whistleblowers told of misappropriations, misconduct, and retaliation for reporting wrongdoing in the department. They called the problems systemic and a “culture of corruption” in which management bullies and harasses workers who report problems. At the start of the second panel of VBA officials, Committee Chair Jeff Duncan (R-FL) described the July 2, 2014, day-long, unannounced visit committee staff took to the Philadelphia VBA office. close
