The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee held a hearing on the alleged abuses of taxpayer funds for political gain by the White House Office of Political Affairs. David Simas, director of the White House Office of Political Strategy and Outreach, was subpoenaed for the second time to appear to discuss alleged violations of the Hatch Act. Mr. Simas again chose not to appear, the White House counsel contending that Mr. Simas was immune from congressional compulsion to testify on matters relating to his official duties. The committee approved by a party-line vote of 19-14 a resolution rejecting those White House claims of executive immunity for presidential adviser David Simas. close
