Jack El-Hai talked about his book, The Nazi and the Psychiatrist: Hermann Göring, Dr. Douglas M. Kelley, and a Fatal Meeting of Minds at the End of WWII, in which he tells the story of army psychiatrist Dr. Douglas Kelley, who was given the task of studying the minds of high ranking Nazi officials, including Hermann Göring. Dr. Kelley was responsible for deciding whether Nazi war criminals were mentally fit for trial and in the process conducted his own studies to see if there was a common psychosis that made Nazi’s commit their crimes.
