Coaches, journalists, and former major leaguers talked about the history of the relationship between African Americans and baseball, and actions baseball leagues can take to encourage players from the African-American community. The program included questions from audience members. During the event, former Major League Baseball team manager Jerry Manuel briefly spoke by phone.

This event was the Metropolitan Junior Baseball League’s Bobby Bonds Memorial Symposium. The organization uses baseball to mentor, educate, and encourage young African Americans to achieve and succeed in their lives and careers. close
