The case involved three same-sex couples married legally in states that recognize same-sex marriage who later moved to Tennessee and asked to have their marriages recognized by the state. A district court issued a preliminary injunction finding that certain Tennessee statutes invalidating their same-sex marriage were unconstitutional.
