Edwin Fountain talked about legislation to authorize the redevelopment of Pershing Park in Washington, D.C., as a national World War I memorial after efforts to place a memorial on the National Mall failed due to opposition from Washington, D.C. local government officials. He said there was no significant opposition to the legislation and that he expected fundraising to begin after approval by Congress. He described the proposed location on Pennsylvania Avenue where there was a small memorial to General John Pershing who commanded the American Expeditionary Forces during World War One. close
