Governor Jay Nixon (D-MO) spoke to reporters and answered questions about the police shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, and subsequent protests in the St. Louis suburb. Unarmed 18 year-old Michael Brown was shot and killed by police on Saturday, August 9, 2014. Governor Nixon announced that he was placing the Missouri Highway Patrol in charge of security in Ferguson to both reestablish the rule of law and expand the trust from the people of Ferguson. Governor Nixon was joined by local government and law enforcement officials at a conference center on the North Campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
