President Obama made a statement on the latest developments in Iraq, saying that the Iraqi and Kurdish forces recapturing the Mosul Dam was a “major step forward” in the ongoing fight against ISIL*. He also announced that Attorney General Eric Holder would visit Ferguson, Missouri, following the previous week’s police shooting of unarmed teen Michael Brown and subsequent violent protests.

*The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), was a Sunni militant group. In June 2014, violence escalated as the group seized several cities in northern and western Iraq. close
