Maria Varela, a former member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), talked about her experiences during the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. Ms. Varela spoke about how she became involved with civil rights, and the challenges she faced during the Freedom Summer Project. This was the keynote address at a symposium hosted by the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. close
