Edward Larson talked about George Washington’s role in the Constitutional Convention of 1787. Washington agreed to participate as the delegate from Virginia and was then voted to preside over the convention. The convention was held in order to craft a new document to replace the Articles of Confederation.

“Washington in Philadelphia: 1787” was the second lecture in the 2014 Gay Hart Gaines Distinguished Visiting Lecturer of American History series “George Washington and the American Union.” It was held by the Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington in the Robert H. and Clarice Smith Auditorium located at the Mount Vernon Inn Complex. close
