Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Ranking Member Bob Corker (R-TN) spoke to reporters after attending a closed-door hearing on the threat from the co-called Islamic State*. Senator Corker said that there had been no discussion with anyone in the administration about a possible authorization by Congress for the use of military force in the region or on additional sanctions against Iran. He also said that the lack of action against Assad in Syria was holding back allies in the region from being more supportive.

*The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), an extremist Sunni militant group that has called itself the Islamic State. close
