Panelists talked about international issues regarding the return of funerary objects and human remains to federally recognized American Indian tribes.

2014 marked the 25th anniversary of the National Museum of the American Indian Act. The law established the National Museum of the American Indian on the National Mall as part of the Smithsonian Institution, and encouraged the Smithsonian to return any Native American human remains and funerary objects to federally recognized Native American tribes.

“Going Home: 25 Years of Repatriation Under the NMAI Act” was a symposium to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 1989 National Museum of the American Indian Act. close
