Joe Krause talked about the importance of geography, the railroad, and the Wabash and Erie Canal to the growth of Lafayette, Indiana. In the 1840s the canal stimulated trade in Lafayette and affirmed the city’s importance to the region. In the 1850s, railroads arrived and connected Lafayette to large American cities such as Chicago and New York.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2014 LCV Cities Tour” in Lafayette and West Lafayette, Indiana, from November 16-20 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
