Elizabeth Solberg talked about the Lafayette, Indiana, railroad relocation project. She explained what it took to get the project started, what makes the project remarkable and the importance of the bi-partisan, coordinated effort that it required. The project was a 34-year long effort to relocate two railroads that dissected downtown Lafayette. The first railroad was relocated in 1994, ending 142 years of train service down the middle of 14 blocks of Fifth Street. The second railroad was relocated in 2001, making a total of 42 grade crossings eliminated.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2014 LCV Cities Tour” in Lafayette and West Lafayette, Indiana, from November 16-20 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. close
