Derek Chollet and John Conger briefed reporters and responded to questions on a plan to consolidate U.S. military infrastructure in Europe. They said operations at the Mildenhall, Alconbury, and Molesworth airbases would close ,and the F-35 Joint Strike fighter would be permanently based in Europe. These actions were the result of the European Infrastructure Consolidation (EIC) process, and were expected to save the Defense Department $500 million a year. close
