Representative Greg Walden (R-OR), chair of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, talked about his opposition to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Tom Wheeler’s rules for regulating the Internet passed 3-2 by the FCC the previous day. The plan would reclassify Internet services providers like utilities, which would open them up to more regulation. Representatives Walden and Fred Upton (R-MI) and Senator John Thune (R-SD) were working on alternative legislation. close
