Navy Secretary Raymond Mabus, Naval Operations Chief Admiral John Greenert, and Marine Corps Commandant General Joseph Dunford testified at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on the Navy’s fiscal year 2016 budget request. The effect of sequestration* on readiness was discussed. Other issues included: modernization, mental health, PTSD, retention, transition to civilian life, transition into VA care, and the Asia-Pacific rebalance.

*Sequestration, a legal procedure in which every federal agency has the same percentage of its budget taken back in order to cut deficit spending, was part of a debt ceiling and tax increase agreement for the Budget Control Act of 2011 and began March 1, 2013. close
