William LeoGrande and Peter Kornbluh, co-authors of Back Channel to Cuba: The Hidden History of Negotiation between Havana and Washington, talked about the history of U.S.-Cuba relations since the Cuban Revolution and the negotiations betweeen Cuba and U.S. during the Kennedy administration.

On October 19, 1960, following Fidel Castro’s rise to power, the U.S. imposed a trade embargo, banning all exports from the U.S. to Cuba. More than 50 years later, in December 2015, the Obama administration announced a move to re-establish diplomatic relations. close
