Mary Madden gave a tour of the library at Cedar Crest, the Kansas Governor’s home, and talked about the importance of its collection of books. Cedar Crest was built in 1928 by Kansas newspaper founder Frank MacLennan. When Mr. McLennan’s widow died, the home was gifted to the state of Kansas to be used as a home for the governor. One of the stipulations of the gift was that the library was to remain intact.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Topeka, Kansas, from April 5-9 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communications local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
