Myrka Don Fred talked about the Alex Haley Collection at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Alex Haley was the author of Roots: The Saga of an American Family, the co-author of The Autobiography of Malcolm X, and a winner of the Pulitzer Prize for literature. Roots was made into a mini-series in 1977 and was watched by an estimated 130-140 million viewers.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from March 19-22 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
