Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Richard Burr (R-NC) spoke about government surveillance and expiring provisions of the PATRIOT Act, which was scheduled to run out at the end of that month. Earlier in the day, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in New York City unanimously ruled that the National Security Agency’s (NSA) phone record data collection program is not authorized by the PATRIOT Act and exceeds the scope of what Congress authorized in the law. close
