A Generation Removed
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Lincoln, Nebraska, from May 3-7 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time Warner local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2.

Margaret Jacobs talked about her book, A Generation Removed: The Fostering and Adoption of Indigenous Children in the Postwar World, about the Indian Child Welfare Act. Enacted in 1978, the act was created to combat the prevalent removal of Indian children from their homes. Prior to the act’s passage, as much as 35 percent of Indian children were taken from their families and adopted into white households.
