The French, British, and German ambassadors to the U.S. talked about Europe’s role in negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program. Barbara Slavin moderated the discussion and audience member questions, which included questions on how European Union countries would handle potential future sanctions with Iran under a finalized agreement.

Ambassadors Gérard Araud, Sir Peter Westmacott, and Peter Wittig talked about the impact of the Iran nuclear deal on European interests. Ambassador Araud spoke about how the talks began in 2003, Ambassador Westmacott spoke about how the Iranians got to this point in the negotiations, and Ambassador Wittig spoke about the impact of European sanctions and his expectations for economic ties between Europe and Iran. close
