Brian York talked about the Martin Bomber Plant, which produced the two historic B-29 bombers, Enola Gay and Bockscar. The two B-29's carried the atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, Japan, during World War II. He also shared the history of the Strategic Air Command (SAC), which controlled strategic bombers and intercontinental ballistic missiles during the Cold War. The Strategic Air Command operated out of Offut Air Force Base in Omaha from 1948 until 1992.
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Omaha, Nebraska, from May 7-13 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communications local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed.
