Hugh Reilly talked about Standing Bear v. Crook, the 1879 landmark case involved the Ponca Indian’s chief Standing Bear, the United States government, and General George Crook. It recognized an Indian as a “person” under the law. Kathy Aultz, executive director of the Douglas County Historical Society, showed the home of General Crook. a career U.S. Army Officer known for his service during the Civil War and the Indian Wars.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Omaha, Nebraska, from May 7-13 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communications local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
