Alvin Roth talked about his book, Who Gets What - and Why: The New Economics of Matchmaking and Market Designm, about how markets really work. Professor Roth, who won the 2012 Nobel Prize in economics for his work on market designs, said that markets aren’t simply places where buyers and sellers exchange goods over a mutually agreed upon price, and that there are also markets that match buyers and sellers that have little to do with prices (kidney transplants, college admissions, marriages, etc.). In his book, he argues that a more complete picture of markets will give us a better understanding of how our economy works and, sometimes, doesn’t work. close
