Mark Scherer talked about the precedent set in the Supreme Court case Nebraska Press Association v. Stuart. In 1975, Erwin Simants murdered six members of the Kellie family in the rural town of Sutherland, Nebraska and the resulting media frenzy from all across the state. To ensure that Simants' Sixth Amendment rights were not violated, the judge overhearing the case barred the media from printing facts about him in the newspaper.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Omaha, Nebraska, from May 7-13 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communications local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
