The Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission hosted a congressional staff briefing on U.S. efforts to counter Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a militant group in central Africa responsible for abducting, raping, maiming, and killing civilians and children. Based on their on-the-ground experience and research expertise, representatives of three non-governmental organizations (NGOs) talked about the current status of those efforts, the civilian experience in LRA-affected areas, and additional actions the U.S. government could take to continue to make progress against the rebel group. The briefing was held in the Rayburn House Office Building. close
