Tim Bohen talked about his book, Against the Grain: The History of Buffalo’s First Ward, about the history of Irish immigrants who worked in the hulls of grain ships and in other waterfront industries in the area called the First Ward of Buffalo, New York. The First Ward was a geographically isolated area in Buffalo inhabited primairly by settlers from the south and west of Ireland.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Buffalo, New York, from August 8-14 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time Warner Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
