In an excerpt from the session of the House of Representatives, members debated the veto override attempt of the Family Medical Leave Act. The legislation would mandate that businesses employing more than 50 people allow up to 12 weeks unpaid leave for employees for medical emergencies, including the birth of a child or care for an elderly parent. President Bush supports the idea but thinks that it should be voluntary. close
