Sen. Wendell Ford, chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, spoke to reporters outside the U.S. Capitol on plans for the presidential inauguration of Gov. Bill Clinton on January 20, 1993. He said the budget for the ceremony would be approximately ten percent less than that of 1989, and mentioned the specific breakdown of costs for the event. Following his remarks, the senator drove four “ceremonial” nails into the inaugural platform. close
